Hi,

Legalities aside, os x will only run on a subset of available x86 hardware -
and i've not heard of anyone successfully running it on a distributed /
cloud / virtual / non-physical environment. There are plenty of successful
builds using core2duo and recently some i7 / nehalem successes, but it seems
to rely on the willingness to buy the hardware to match what apple supports.

AFAICT Apple uses their operating system to drive hardware sales (which is
where they really make their money) and are completely opposed to running OS
X except on Apple hardware - although as recent advances in the hackintosh
project can let you run an unmodified version of OS X (ie, not violate the
DMCA) i'm not sure about wether they can enfore their preference ... it
likely depends on what country you're living in.

As far as i can tell, you could build numerous monster i7 servers for the
cost of a Powermac if you were so inclined, and prepared to do your
homework, but I'd forget about virtual / cloud computing and OS X.

If I end up going ahead and building an OS X workstation, I'll post my
findings.

The standard disclaimer applies: this information is collated from spurious
internet sources. I know nothing first hand.
