Not sure of where you're situated Chris but there are cocoaheads meetups in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisvegas as far as I know. http://groups.google.com/group/cocoaheadsau?hl=en_US is the google group where you'd be able to learn about the next meetup.
Peepcode has some introductions - http://peepcode.com And finally the hillegass cocoa book is a modern classic. Get that and follow through the examples. Good luck!
