All great advice so far, but I just want to add that while it is critical to understand your costs when setting your rate (super, expected utilisation, equipment, sick leave, holiday, etc.) that is only half the story.
Don't forget to gauge what the market can bear. Just because you live in a tent, wear hand-me-down clothing, and work 90 hours a week, that doesn't mean you should set a cheap rate.
