It’s simply because there is huge demand for developers and not enough supply, which creates a profitable situation for developers and recruiters. From the developers perspective, we are bombarded with emails from the recruiters who treat recruitment like a game of minesweeper. To make it worse, many of these recruiters don’t bother to learn about the technologies they are recruiting for. This gist posted by DHH sums up the situation: https://gist.github.com/dhh/1285068
These recruiters I know, do not represent all recruiters, I think this is an inevitable phenomenon / side-effect of the economics at work in the industry. However, it does get tiring responding to thousands of generic emails pinged to your inbox every year and it’s hard not to feel frustrated sometimes. I no longer look at my LinkedIn anymore because it’s so overwhelming.
