Here's how we do our hobo dinners. The boys always love these. In fact, I
once had the dad of one of my Trailblazers call me early one Friday morning
to find out how this is done because they were going camping as a family
that weekend, and his son wanted to make these.

I use charcoal to cook them because it is dependable, and you can do this in
one of those large Weber grills if the area you are in is not allowing fires
(as is often the case in Colorado in the summer).

Make two hamburger patties not more than 1/4 inch thick. Thicker than that
and it will take too long to cook. Try to make it evenly thick all over.
make them about 5-6 inches in diameter. Season them to your liking. Salt
and pepper, Steak seasoning, BBQ sauce, Cajun seasoning, etc. works well.

Place a few cubes of butter in the middle of one patty (when placing
ingredients in the meat, leave 1/2 inch around the edge clean for sealing
the two patties). Place vegetables in the middle. We usually get one of
those bags of frozen potatoes, the cubed kind. The smaller the cubes, the
more the potatoes will be done when the meat is done. Add frozen carrots,
corn, or whatever else you want. Place the other patty on top and seal the
edges.

Take a piece of aluminum foil and completely wrap the patties in the foil.
Take another piece, and place the patty in the middle of this foil so that
where the edges of the first piece of foil come together is in the middle of
the nest piece. Completely wrap the patties again. You can do a third
wrap, but if you get good quality foil, it's not really necessary.

Now place on top of the coals you already have going. Cook 15 - 20 minutes,
then turn and cook the other side. Use long tongs to turn the patty with.
When done, open carefully so as not to tear the foil. Then, if the meat is
not cooked you can re-wrap and cook some more.

Also, one thing we did at another church at our harvest festival was to have
each person bring a can of soup (didn't matter what kind). Put them all in
a large pot and cook. I know, it sounds disgusting, especially if someone
brings pea soup, but it is really good.

Anyone have some "boy" tested meals. Last time I tried to do hobo dinners
everyone turned up their noses.... kids :-0

How about snacks- what do you all typically bring to feed the natives?

Thanks
