My personal opinion. If they want to be a conscientious objector they can. I personal know one and it has haunted him all of his life. He went to prison for his belief. I think it is a good place for them to think things over.
In my case. I feel it is every able bodied Americans duty to serve. They still have the right to choose and do what they choose to do. However their choice once taken will indeed follow them their whole life. Just like abortion once that choice is made and followed through with it will be with you until Jesus comes. Sure their is forgiveness. Sure you can be President of the U.S. Where is the integrity? One thing they can't argue around. The very system they are not standing up to protect is granting them the freedom to do what they choose to do. If everyone acted the same way they did they would no longer have that choice. It's a throw the baby out with the bath water mentality. As far as I am concerned, let them sit in prison and think it all over while those that protect their right to choose risk their life protecting the co. I don't feel a candidate Eagle Scout or a GMA would make such a choice. It strikes me as odd as it would be so out of character for this honor. Might as well said they announced to you they were pro homosexual and gave all kinds of reasons for it. It's still wrong and I personally wouldn't bestow the honor. That is my honest feeling about this. I would say sorry son but I can't sign off on it. I think you have more growing to do.
