If he was a Ranger going for his GMA, would you wait the 90 days to see what happens. I'm not saying this boy can't change, but it sounds like he has been in trouble for some time. I don't konw what I would do if I were on the board, but I sure would be having second thoughts. He knew going into the board that an Eagle Scout is suppose to be above Reproach. What will other boards say if he gets his Eagle and then right after that gets caught. Are you watering down the program to help someone to get an Eagle Scout that don't really deserve it? First- DJ for all the "trouble" he's had before.. admits this was the most foolish thing he's ever done. He's been caught in the past, but never brought to justice. Much of this has scared him "straight".. AS *Luck.. and the hand of the Lord would have it.. Officialy, this is a first offence at 17 turning 18.. The court is willing to extend grace if parties can come togather and show DJ has enlisted in the armed forces, or enrolls in a trade program at a College, and makes satifactory progress while staying out of trouble. The BSA Scouts have a 6 point format for awarding Eagle.. and DJ's paperwork is in complete order saveing for point #2 that states: "Shows evidence of liveing the Scout Oath and Law in daily life" The Eagle is for DJ, and not to be linked to any other scout. Those that have signed off on his award cannot go back now and re-voke their approval. The papers have been filed. The process go's forward based on precident. The decision then is to postpone the Eagle board for 2 mo's to allow DJ to meet the challenges of the court, and show evidence of point #2 by staying out of trouble and serveing the troop in some direct function, that does not have DJ working with the scout boys. The board insisted on that, as Scoutmaster objected. Scoutmaster requested, that at the comming Troop Court of Honor DJ attend but his status would not be mentioned or acknoledged. The Board agreed.. *IF DJ can stay out of trouble for 60 days, meet the Judges requirements, then it is *Possible that the infraction would be reduced to allow DJ to not have this on his record as Grand Thieft.. a Felony. At that time the Eagle Board could meet and complete the process up or down.
