I will find that information out on the 22nd of this month. Until then we just won't know. Ha! Reminds me of what our boys say when where on a road trip..."Commander, are we there yet?" hehhehehe...
From rumor I have been told we will receive our materials there and it will be a class type session where we will all learn it from open book. The original plan was to mail out the materials and have us pre study for it. This way is just as good. I would imagine it will take us a few years to get up to speed on this new program anyway. Learn it a bit at a time. Springfield will be flowing with blue coats as my coworkers always tell me... I work and live right in that area. (Phone man.) This will be my first RR National Council.
The way the LMA Transitions and Ranger Basics modules are designed (actually, almost all of the LTA modules) the commander will receive the book when they arrive at the class, and they will finish the entire book during that class session. There will be no homework required for completion (though there are suggestions throughout the modules for additional things you should do to enhance your understanding of the material -- these are called "On Your Own" boxes).
The books will have certain key words left out, and the commanders taking the classes will fill in the blanks from the PowerPoint slides and/or the presentation of the material. The quizzes are broken up and spread throughout the material, so that you will have a presentation over some material, and then immediate quizzes and feedback on the correct answers.
The plan is for the ICS Notebook to be sent out to potential instructors prior to an ICS so that they can study the material and take an open-book exam. This is structured like the Phase I of National Academy. If you pass the open-book exam, then you are invited to attend your district's next ICS. The actual material from the ICS Notebook is not taught at the ICS. Unfortunately in Springfield for Council, we were unable to get the ICS Notebooks sent out to everyone who is attending the ICS/IT class on Friday. Thus, those folks will have some homework when they get home from Springfield! This is the only LTA module that will require pre-study before the actual class. It will also have an assignment that must be done after the ICS before you can be certified again. But you will have to attend the ICS to find out what that assignment is!
I know Mark Oliver will be there and myself. Who else will be there. I hope we get a chance to meet. What do you all say we meet Friday the 22nd at 7:00 am. at the North Entrance of the convention Center? I will even bring a few Ranger Net Buttons from Camporama.
I'll be there all week.
Friday at 6:30 is the Silver Eagle Banquet, so meeting at 7:00 that night would be difficult. Thursday night is the regional breakaways at 7:30. A brief meeting before that may be possible, but it's usually tight getting supper between the business sessions and the breakaways.
I haven't received a schedule but I was told I needed to be there Friday and Saturday for the Ranger Transition Courses and ICS training.
Friday morning is the introduction to the new program. Brother Trask will also be speaking Friday morning. Friday afternoon is the workshops, where you select one of the following: ICS/IT, FCF and the new Advancement Trail, or Royal Rangers "Meeting the need in small churches."
Saturday all day is the LMA Transitions module, with an awards ceremony at the end of the day.

How is the Ranger Basic Class being taught before National Council? I understood that this is where Training Chiefs were to learn how to Teach Ranger Basics? I'm I wrong on this assumption? Our Divisional Commander is going to National Council to learn that. They will be teaching it an our Commanders Conference in April. Thanks for the Info.

- All,
- The group I'm attending the Commanders Conferance
- with is coming up Friday morning for the Ranger Basics course. I don't really know why they're takeing Ranger Basics since they all ready had LTC. Guess they want to leave Saturday free to goto the classes. Because I
- all ready took the LTC I'm going to be doing the transition course on Saturday.
- While the rest of the gang was takeing the Ranger Basics Course on Friday. I was thinking about touring headquarters. Anyone know if I have to give advance notice or can I just show up and buy the ticket at headquarters?
- Thanks,
- Noel"Spirit Rider"Bell
