Subject: Re: [RR] FCF First Aid Skills
merit
I think it is a great idea. For many years we have lacked in the
RED Cross training as "We were not qualified" this made little sense as
we taught all kinds of other things without "being qualified"
In 24 years I have taken the Red Cross Course (CPR and First Aid) 5 or 6
times.... in that time they have quit teaching first aid and are teaching
first responder training. Yes we need to teach this and yes it is
important.
The good side of this is we as common every day first aid givers can
teach and give a merit for certain training. Not to say they will be
qualified to go out and do surgery on someone. Simple age equivalent
training won't hurt one little bit. It might hurt the Red Cross
pocket book if they don't get 15 to 45.00 smackers each Ranger who
wants the First Aid Merit. but it should make better prepared
Rangers.
Then if they really want to shine.... go for the Gold and spend
$45.00.
As it turns out I am a Red Cross FA/CPR instructor.
Let me understand this - a boy can get the merit from an uncertified
person teaching first aid skills, but he can't get the merit by
taking a Red Cross course? Maybe I am missing something here, but
where is the logic in that?

Subject: Re: [RR] FCF First Aid
Skills merit
Obtaining the First Aid / CPR skills card
through Red Cross, Green Cross or American Heart Assoc. still applies for
the Gold First Aid / CPR merit. The skills taught in the above classes
cover only a few of the requirements for the First Aid Skills Merit. So
Taking a accredited First Aid / CPR will not meet all the requirements for
the First Aid Skills Merit. You as a leader can teach First Aid Skills
without being an accredited instructor. As for the First Aid / CPR you
must have an instructors card to teach it.
Hope this clears up your
questions...

One of the required merits for a boy to join FCF is First
Aid Skills. The
requirements do not list obtaining a Red Cross
FA/CPR card. Am I to assume
that is
out?
