To get Red Cross certified, you have to first take the course and follow
up from there. It is best to check with your local Red Cross chapter to find
out more information on becoming certified. No body wants to do it mostly
because they are procrastinating and not taking the initiative to go out
there and be really really serious about what they are out there for. I
wouldn't allow boys to go to Pow-wows and other activities if there was no
one there that could treat them in an emergency and essentially save their
lives because they knew what to do. This is not something to dilly dally
about and should be taken very very seriously. Red Cross changes their
requirements almost annually so it is very important to stay on top of the
changes. Certification runs out in a year with CPR and 3 for the first aid,
(At least around here.) I am certified in the advanced course as a
Professional Rescuer since I'm someone who would be involved as a first
responder to plane crashes. I'm also certified in First Aid and in Disaster
Assessment. If you are not certified, it is important to get certified as it
can reduce liabilities as far as the church is concerned, give you a piece of
mind knowing that yes, there is something that you can do instead of let
someone die from an injury while you stood around with your hands in your
pockets looking like you are not educated. Do it for yourself, Do it for the
kids. Call your local Red Cross chapter and check on the times of the courses
that are offered in your area. BTW, Red Cross no longer offers a canoe
course, but does have various water safety courses and including water safety
instructor courses available. The LtCol in my Squadron for the Civil Air
Patrol is an instructor for the Rappahannock American Red Cross in
Fredericksburg Virginia.

hyperlink to the website for the Red Cross. On the webpage you will find a
chapter locator. What you do to find your chapter is type in your zip code.

God Bless,

Iron Mike
