Dear Rarice:
For a quick answer unresearched and subject to flaw I believe I had read in Scripture that the body should be kept pure and plain and not used as an ornament. The argument could be on cultural grounds that this applied to a certain group of people at a certain time which is true but not true. In our culture it is still not acceptable with most groups to pierce the body for fashion. I know of some very Godly men that have their ears pierced for FCF so they look more like Voyageurs. They don't adorn themselves with extravagant jewelry when they are living like modern men. The Cherokee tattooed their entire bodies and it was not done for fashion but for religion and fashion.
A Christian brother I worked with who played an important role in drawing me back to Christ has tattoos on entire back of both arms that say white power. it shocked me when I saw that and began to judge him until he explained to me that that was where he came from and he regrets having such tattoos. He said that rather have them removed he chose to leave them on so he could witness to the unsaved that this is the sinner he used to be. I believe his testimony because during break time I couldn't get him to shut up about Jesus and he was keeping company with everybody including blacks and hispanics. Everybody knew he loves Jesus.
You could tell this young man that he should not tattoo his body because people change as they get older ( like me) and they may not like the mark of foolishness they have to live with.
In my opinion the young people of today that tattoo themselves in their face and pierce their nose and cheeks and who knows wherever else looks grotesque. I cannot understand why somebody would be so vain as to stake their tongue. The first time I saw that I looked at the young lady with disgust, I couldn't help myself. I also felt a chill go down my spine from thinking how painful that must have been.
I will look up in scripture on this subject before I answer again. Rangernetters try not to flame me too much on this as it is my first gut reaction.
