I've done this both ways.

The main problem with maintaining an RR checking account is that it sometimes
removes the outpost from the beneficience of the church.  Depending upon how
good your fund raising is, this may or may not be bad.  Where fund raising is
marginal, when the checking account is empty, Royal Rangers can't get anything
and the church sometimes wont spring for anything at all.  If you don't have a
checking account, the church will often pay for things even if the Royal
Ranger account is at zero...

If fund raising is really good, then the Royal Rangers fund is often asked
for funds to support other ministries which again, may or may not be bad...
(Some outposts tithe to the main church fund and/or missions.)
