I believe NTC was both theatre to deliver a point and to demonstrate the
ability of our boys to run an outpost and/or patrol. We saw the wrong
way to lead. But, also we found out that we can work out our differences
in the patrol to become a functioning team, this experience taught us
that the boys can do the same.

Maybe the distinction was not clear and needs to be clarified at the
National level, that the Role of Sr. Guide (at NTC) is to show how 'not'
to deal with our boys. If Sr. Guides antics bothered us, than likewise
the antics we portray in front of our boys would naturally
bother/discourage them. Thus the purpose of Sr. Guide at NTC is to
facilitate a change in us, by self examination. That is, Sr. Guide
(possibly) being a mirror image of ourselves. To emulate the role would
be the opposite of its purpose.

The patrol system is a mechanism to foster team work amongst the boys.
Its purpose is to allow the boys to lead themselves, with the commanders
careful guidance. Did we not learn to work together to accomplish the
tasks given by the Staff and Sr. Guide? Than likewise, our boys can/will
do the same.

A thought crossed my mind; If Sr. Guide is suppose to be us (the
Commanders) than he should not be called Sr. Guide. A Sr. Guide is a
boys position of leadership. Maybe he should be called Group Commander
or Sr. Commander. This would be more in line with the proper roles in
an outpost. Any comment on this?

Thank you Duanne for giving us some brain food to digest. Please
continue the hypothetical and leading questions.

Personal note: I'm a college student so I have some time to respond to
your e-mails. The Rangernet is new so I find myself wanting to
participate in every discussion. Time to go back to the studies. God
Bless and thanks to all for a great forum.
