I've been to several Kangaroo Courts that had an element of rowdy
behavior that was very un-Ranger like. *I've been to many that were
great fun and had a positive effect of extending fellowship, good
humor and a recruiting element to FCF.
Last summer, NW Dist. had a Kangaroo Court and our traditional
"Judge 3 knots" was replaced by *another less skilled "Judge"
Judge 3 Knots would call the "court of lawn" to "Odor"... He kept
it tight and clear that it was a "fun-time" *But for some reason a
boy stood and yelled:
"Just ignore what they tell you to do! RESIST AUTHORITY!"
...and it didn't help that when the FCF "scout" was called.. that he
bolted, ran out of camp and came back to spray the Judge with a
hose...
*I sure, this can be seen a only a act of humor.. and many have had
there fill of 'spoil sports to good clean Ranger fun.. However, I saw
that the *spirit of the boys changed to one of rebellion, and that was
un-welcome and not true to the Ranger CODE.
"Humor" is fine if played fair and tempered by *mercy... But it is critical,
that before the boys we show then that we are serious about the CODE-
Pledge and Golden rule!
*Untill we all can play fair- we shouldn't play, Kangaroo Court at all-
We held a Kangaroo Court at out sectional camp...
Back at the OP I gave a "devotion" about Jesus takeing the punishment
of judgement for you in exchange for your acceptance of his sacrifice ect.
To make a point, I used "Kangaroo Court" and asked for a show of hands
as to anyone who wanted a "pass" to get out of trouble<G> Amazeingly,
out of the 25 or so Rangers I handed out 8 small business cards like
in the game "monopoly" that said:
"Because Christ paid the price on the cross for our sins, we are saved
from punishment, let it be know that Cdr.Duane will stand for you
at any RR Kangaroo Court for any charge by the presentation of this card"
*Then I "forgot" about it<G>
Next summer, Kangaroo Court picked up one of my boys and he whipped out
that card! What a SHOCK!
*But before a large group, I explained the card and the "Idea" behind it.
Then true to Royal Rangers they let me have it with super soakers!<G>
