There is no disproving of superstition! But personally, I earned the GMA,
in all 3 areas and one of the first silver buffalos; not because my dad was
my commander, he never was, but because advancement can be its own
incentive. As a boy, I could out perform and out ranger any leader. To be
close to Johnnie and the seats of the administration were incentive enough.
My dad never pushed, but only facilitated when I asked for help. Him being
a staff member mearly opened doors; it was up to me to step through them and
march forward. I believe most children do what they do in defiance of
parental direction. I rather doubt my son will earn his GMA because I tell
him to; he has all the choice, to progress at his own pace and direction.

>All,
>Please don't take this as flames, because what I speak here is the truth.
>Sure, there are alot of commanders boys that earn the GMA. I also think a
>majorty of commander boys earn it, because "Dad, wanted me to" and not
>because
>they wanted to. Instead of supporting there son, they say "You have to".
>Making earning the GMA a burden rather then a goal. That's reason why some
>commanders boys earns the GMA, quits Rangers and goes to Youth.
>It should be left up to the boy to earn the GMA, and not dear old dad or
>Commander Bob to force him along.
>Prove me wrong.
