ADD is a real disorder, but most of the time it is improperly recognized by
those who are not prepared to handle it properly. They get scared and don't
know what to think. I was diagnosed as having it. Some people use it as a
cop out and or excuse for the reason why things are the way they are. In many
cases the boy with ADD or ADHD (presumably), has been diagnose with this and
the diagnosis is wrong.
Here is the real deal from someone who has been there and done that. I
was obnoxious and arrogant as a little kid all through my teen years, I would
always have fights and arguments with my parents, My parents very seldomly
ever said any thing that was to encourage me. I was dumped on with chore after
chore after chore, kept outside in 25 degree weather to split wood until 11:30
on a school night, they were never at home always leaving me to be in charge
of my younger brothers and my sister. Yes, I needed the Extra attention, I
was put into Special Education and all that as I really do have a problem with
math. But If I had a parent who would have spent a little extra time with me,
I honestly believe that it would have caused me to apply myself better in
school, I would have learned how to apply myself instead of learn how to be
withdrawn for fear that I would get yelled at.
As far as Ritalin goes, they were going to put me on that but there was a
big family feud about it and my grandparents won. I was not to go on that
drug because it's mind altering effect. Even Ritalin gets misdiagnosed and it
is often not necessary in many cases. The real Attention Deficit Disorder is
not the child, all children need is attention, but the parents who don't want
to take the time to spend with their kids and get to know them. Because many
don't take the time to get to know their child, that is why they seem to think
that Rangers is a babysitting service. Parents need to be involved in their
kids lives. Such involvement would radically reduce crime in anyone area. We
just can't leave it all to the schools to teach these things because they
don't do that.
Anyway, just my 2 cents.
