As far as advancement on the standard track or the gold track goes these
requirements must be met when called for. However advanced merits may be
earned any time.Unless the handbook specifies how can we as leaders
require a boy to do an alternate advanced merit. Also it is my opinion
that if we don't encourage our boys to do the gold track requirements we
are shortchanging them.As always the most we can do is give them the
material and the training. They will themselves either pick up the ball
and go with it or sit on the side and just get by.Remember prayer
changes things. This includes the most unruley, out of control person-boy
we encounter.God Bless You All.
