For all of us out here that have not gone very far below the equator, just
what do you refer to when you call someone a "kiwi"?

        Dear Mark
        > In the Sydney Morning Herald (http://www.smh.com.au/index.html
        > <http://www.smh.com.au/index.html> ) today, there is an
interesting (?)
        > article by Tim Ferguson. It describes many of the residents of
various
        > states of Australia in rather "interesting" terms. BUT, not a
word about
        > the national treasure, vegemite.
        > Victor, is this a true representation of your country? (I hope
not)
He also didn't mention the fact that an Australian invented the
motorised lawn mower,
another and the clothes hoist. In fact Australians have contributed
a lot to the world.
We are leading the way in cancer research and other diseases. It was
an Australian
        who invented the obital engine.
He did not mention the fact that it was the Australian Army who were
the first to defeat
the Japanese during WWII, it was on the Kokoda Trail, also in was
the The Australian
Army that Rommel's line in North Africa thus allowing the British to
start to push him
        back.
He also failed to mention the hard work of our fore-fathers in
making this this country,
        the hardships they endured.
He mentioned a Political Party that had a million votes and did get
a seat in the
Federal Goverment, in fact they got one seat in the Sentate. These
votes were the
total for Australia and when you divide that 7, it was not enough to
ellect them. This
party is called "Pauline Hanson's One Nation" they use slogans like
"One People, One
Party, One Nation." (She got that from Adolf Hitler) and "It's Time"
which was used by
the Labour Party back in 72 when they won the election. Their idea
of democarcy is
that if you want to challenge the leadership of the party you are
kicked out.
The Senator from Tasmania was elected by his State and has been for
the past 16
years. The Australian Senate is elected by each State electing 10
people to the
Sentate reguardless of the population size (Tasmania has a small
population). The role
of the Senate is to protect the rights of the States.
As for vegemite, he did not mention our other National dish the
Chico Roll either.
This Tim Ferguson is an ex-Kiwi and does not have a clue what
Australia is about.
