*You may credit NTC for that "word" and an incident I observed...

Some boys feel a "Cut and Chop Card" is a "permit to carry" a
concelled wepon... and the temptation is to "play" with the new found
freedom and "Lord it" over others...

Adults also fall of this... when they intrude, or figure the role of
Leader gives them a search warrent, and the right to prosicute
"law-breakers"....

*Here's where a "teachible monent was lost"....

"A Adult Leader" doing his job "busted" a boy with a "game boy" device..
and removed it for the rest of the campout... *At the next meeting
he called the boy before the group.. and attempted to make a point
showing the group the "game boy" as he quized the boy:

"Do I have something of yours?...Do you know why I took it from you?
Do you want it back? .......well Can you sing the "squirrley song?"

(Can anyone sing the "squirrely song?" NO! and that is when the situation
went sour..)

The Leader pressed.. "So NO song huh? Mayby YOUR PATROL Leader knows it!
...mayby he'll sing my song WHAT! Patrol leader don't know the song?
SENIOR PATROL LEADER FRONT AND CENTER!

*By that time... the young boy was shook up, scared and didn't know what
was going on!------------ He started to weep and the Boy leaders had to
"talk the Adult leader into letting the incident go"

(*Wisely acting the true role of a leader as "protector")

 The game was handed
back... *everyone watching was happy it wasn't them in the center of the
floor... and a *Good Man had to eat crow and humbley ask forgiveness from
a kid who packs contraband goods and *Lost a lot of "high ground" with the
boys....

(BTW this was a BSA Scouter.. *but there but for the grace of God go's I!)

---**X**---

*Now I enjoy Toolcraft... I pack a knife as a tool...

But the lesson learned here was not the Game-boy or a Pocketknife... it
was acting *polite *Kind and *Thoughtfull and mayby makeing those
attributes more important than the Cut and Chop card or the "right"
way to pack a pocketknife...or preserve peace and quiet!

*It's my opinion...

Remove the stumbling block from Toolcraft... *When a tool is needed
it is used right... but mostly TRY NOT TO USE A TOOL!

*NEXT THOUGHT.....

I was watching a *Wild horse trainer 84 years old tame a horse with
a bamboo pole<G>

He climed into a pen with an animal who had not idea what was about to
happen..... (*lots of boys come to the OP with no Idea what...)

The trainer started "talking low and kindly" (*he said at first it don't
matter what you say<G> but helps if you tell the wild critter you like
'em)

Then real slow he reached out and laid the bamboo pole on the wildhorses
neck or 'withers.... *just laid it there... and spoke kind words<G>

He let up if the horse showed "concern"... and also let the horse run
free... a bit... then laid the pole back and began to rub the neck of the
wild horse...

*Little by little he gained the confidence of the horse!

In about a half hour he introduced a rope... and made it so that the horse
knew it as a kindly *Limiting factor... and also a way to "talk" between
a "dominateing Man" and the wild horse...

*I wondered if this could help me in the Outpost... "Horse wispering"
or mayby just *Useing the Brain!

*Sometimes the "Cowboy in ME" wants to throw on a saddle.. tighten the
cinch and kick out the gate and RODEO! *that's "manly".....

WAH-HOO! LET 'ER BUCK!
