One Section Campout per month is absolutely absurd. The section staff needs
to go back to leadership training (not to mention getting on their Knees)
and get their priorities in order.

Outpost comes well before Section activities. Were I the Senior Commander,
i'd state my case in humility (so as not to be party to dessention), then
attend only the Section Outings that fit in with the rest of a reasonabally
balanced schedule.

No one says you have to attend every event at the expense of family time.

Subject: [RR] Too much Scheduled.

Hi all,

On Tuesday we had our Sectional Staff meeting, which I attended. There
seems to be a disagreement between my outpost and at least two other
outposts about the amount of sectional camp outs that are scheduled this
year. Our section has an average of one camp out scheduled per month,
for
the rest of the year. So why am I raising a stink about this? Last
month, I was gone for three weekends in a row on Ranger camp outs.
Needless to say, by the end of the third week of camping I was wiped. I
think what really concerns me is, my wife started to complain about me
"always being away on Ranger events, and leaving her at home." (since we
only have one car, I usually use it to haul Rangers and equipment to and
from events). This obviously concerns me. I love Rangers with all my
heart, but I don't love it more than my family. When I tried to explain
this to the other commanders at the Sectional Staff meeting, all I got
was Commanders rolling their eyes and looks of, Do we really have to
listen to this.

Where do we draw the line between not enough and too much? When do we
get to the point where we look at the schedule and say, "Wow, I think we
over scheduled this year, can't we postpone some of this?" The
response
I got from some of the commanders was, "well them don't go!" but what
they fail to realize is, two points
        1. I'm the Health and safety Officer for the section, I am
suppose to be there, although I can get a substitute if need be.
         2. If either the Sr. Commander or I don't go, the boys can't
go. Our outpost doesn't have the man power to take all of the boys to
all of the events. Usually the Sr. Commander and I can handle it, but
if
one of us cannot make it, then we have a problem.

So, what do I do as a commander, and what do we do as an
outpost.

Let me add a P.S. here. Our outpost has a camp out scheduled
one
a month for our boys. These camp outs ranger from a winter camp (we just
finished it last month) to a backpacking trip (this is our next camp
out). We want to get the boys out as an outpost as much as we can to try
to get our boys to work together, which it is already starting to do.
