Dear Brother:
I'm curious as to why you would separate boys into a group that would just
earn the GMA and not give all the boys the same chance? I can understand
that there will be some who would rather just brush this whole GMA thing
under the rug and forget about it. Would this not discourage the boys who
are not participating in this group? I could see a rift develop between the 2
groups if they were classified like that and not intermixed. I believe that
it could really effect some of the boys views on Rangers and think that we
are perhaps trying to play politics and we are not. Some boys can be handfuls
and I know this because my whole Outpost is a handful, all 6 of them.
When I first came to my outpost, I had a National Ranger of the Year come
and talk to them. I was very grateful to have someone who had been through
the program so close at hand, but I let each one of those boys know that in a
few short years, they could be Ranger of the Year, each of them had the same
opportunity as the next person, all they had to do was apply themselves.
They could squander their opportunity, they could invest in it, or they could
keep it at status quo, the choice was theirs. Some decided that football was
more important to them, OK, who am I to compete with that? When I played
football they were studying things like plate tectonics and seismology
because I'm a walking land mass instead of plays, but what I have to share
with these boys will be with them on bad weather days when they can't play
football. What I have to share with this precious little few that the Lord
has given is that God loves them not one more than the other. So Joey is
just as important as Timmy or Nick. For some reason I don't know if God
indulges in football (and I'll leave that at that) A few hail Mary passes
didn't atone for sins. Christ did. You had asked for input, and I chose to
share please do not see my posting as any sort of a flame because it is not.
I ask questions when I do not understand.
