Dear Cookie:
Intresting You should say some boys call you commander at some Outposts and others call you by your first name. I think sime of the boys in my outpsot think my first name is Commander and my last name is Randy.

Another difference I have noted is in the area of activities...

In Colorado Springs, I once took a group of Buckaroos hiking up Pikes
Peak(what a nightmare).  When the outing was announced, I had complete
cooperation from the parents and church staff.  Other outings over the next
couple of years were met with equal cooperation and enthusiasm.

In Okinawa, activities were a little different.  We did a couple of campouts
on the beach with some snorkelling and reefwalking, but not much more.

I read on Rangernet and hear at district events of various groups going on
extended canoe trips.  I hear of outposts that are taking missions trips in
the US and abroad.  These are great to hear about.  They are inspiring.

The camporama trip last year was the biggest Ranger trip our church has ever
had.  Even then, we only took 2 commanders and 4 boys.

Are we less of a Royal Ranger ministry than the ones who go on a camping or
hiking trip twice a month?

***NO! What we are is different!***

Our current manpower and budget limits what we can do in some areas.   BUT -
we still "reach, teach, and keep boys for Jesus Christ".

I have been in the big Ranger groups where when I said "I need this for
Rangers...", the pastor took out the checkbook and it was done.  I have also
been in the outposts where there had to be a fundraiser just to get boys to
pinewood derby.

I have been in the outposts that do 20 or more activities a year and the
ones that go camping once or twice.

I have seen the churches where boys called the leaders Commander at church
and in public.  I have also been in the churches where the boys call the
commanders by their first name.
