Dear Commander Pier:
I like that idea, it teaches the boys respect for those in authority which they
will take with them into adulthood. To be real we teach our boys in our outpost
the same way I wa ssort of commenting with a little humor In Basic Training I
began to think that the guy wearing the big hat had a first name as Drill and a
last name as Seargeant. Our pastor comes from Tennessee and wouldn't have it any
other way. He claims that the South teaches the courtesy of addressing people by
their proper title which I also like. Children in the Chicago area are not always
taught that proper respectful way of addressing people. I wasn't taught that but I
was taught to always to speak to my elders in a respectful manner. Later, I also
adopted the etiquette somewhat.
