Dear Larrrikin:
I like that reply, that is exactly how I intended to reply only I wanted to back it up with scripture. I haven't yet had time to do my research.
I was struggling with this for a long time because I have quite a burden for the Native Americans. They have some very good men in their history and I don't think they ought to go to hell. Many of the modern day Native Americans are very bitter because of men that came to America in the name of Jesus Christ but were only after the gold they would tell them about after their conversions. Many Indian people in history were threatened to have their heads removed if they didn't convert to Christianity. Many Indian children were taken from their families and forced to read and to accept the Christian religion. They too were driven away from Christ and made very bitter.
I did find scripture that all people will be judged according to their own hearts. Some how, some way, the grace and sovereignty of God is revealed to those that haven't heard about Jesus in their lives. I think Romans 1:20 says this "for the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse. This is strong indication to me that god is saying that those that don't ever hear of Christ still can know him simply by his creation.
One favorite example I like to use is that in the forest food chain something must die so that something else can live. I often use a fallen tree that has decayed and other plants and animals are living because the tree died. A deer is hunted and killed by a pack of wolves. Most people regard the wolf as a figure of evil for reasons like that, yet that pack depends on the death of an innocent creature like a dear for their survival. The wolf knows no difference between good and evil, they just do what wolves are designed to do by their creator. I also like some of the social traits of the wolf, like their respect
for authority within the pack and their cooperation in raising the the young.
Their are many lessons that are taught by Gods creation that can even be backed up by scripture if you look.
I would like to check out this book the Chronicals of Nariana by C.S.Lewis myself. Do you know the publisher and the publishing date?
Thank you for saying so clearly what I have tried to say in the past.

These people will be Judged by HOW the lived their lives by the "Law" placed
in their hearts. Most cultures had laws similar to the Hebrews (although not
as strict in some cases). This still  apllies today for the unreached people
groups of the world like those in Southern China. Our God is a God of love
and He knows that people have died not knowing His love for them.
I would suggest you read the . He shows
how God's love works in this reguard. It will also show you more of what
Jesus is like.

PROCLAIMING GOD'S LOVE TO A DYING WORLD
Say to the captives, 'come out,' and those in darkness, 'Be free!'

I looked to the heavens to where God dwells
I looked into my life to see he lives there as well.
