The economic prosperity that Texas is enjoying is because the leadership of
Texas is pro-business. And, the welfare rate is not necessarily tied to the
unemployment rate. Rather, it is tied to a society that teaches that once
one gets on welfare, that individual has no need to get off--we will take
care of you for the rest of your life. When the Bush led Texas government
initiated a reform in the welfare system, it did so limiting the amount of
time that a person could stay on welfare. These individuals were expected to
take advantage of training programs to learn new skills and therefore get
jobs.

As far as plants shutting down, I am not aware of any here. However, we
have had many companies move their headquarters to the Dallas and Houston
areas to take advantage of Texas' location in relation to Mexico. And, in my
local area, we recently got a Target distribution center. So, I guess my
governor is not doing too badly in the area of our economic development.

Education has always been a major focus of George Bush's administration.
Emphasis has been placed upon raising the educational standards across the
state. It is not something that has just been added to his agenda.

Additiionally, George Bush has reached out to all segments of our society,
never deliberately seeking to estrange his office from anyone.

In all these areas, I do not see Mr. McCain coming anywhere close. Sorry,
but perhaps he should go join Hilliary in New York.
