Perhaps a clarification of my terms? Toleration is to knowingly
overlook a fault, failing, or crime, without calling the offending
individual to aacount. Forbearance is similar, but seeks to correct.
Jesus saves his sternest words for the arrogantly unrepentant, such
as the money-changers, or pharisees. The woamn taken in adultery
presents a different scenario, where the woman was more repentant
that those who accused her. So to her, Jesus shows forbearance.
He told her to "go her way", which is overlooking the crime, but he
instructed her to "sin no more", thus attempting correction.
