Iron Mike,

I returned from the trip and trying to read all the mail in here...

This situation.. Not fun at all. How many commanders do you have?
Main thing here probably would be to have self-confidence. Cause boys see
that you are unsure and confuse, and trying to confuse you even more. That's
kids. They love to check limits. And you gotta hold standarts. With no
compromise.

To me... That's no fun to do rangers with guys who don't want it. Maybe I am
too fast, but I would try to talk to parents what their children come for. I
agree with what I think Stefan said. Don't want to obey the rules - kick em
out. We are not babysitters. And we are here not to please to every little
desire of boys. We are here to help them to grow.

Not boys lead outpost. Commanders do. And I would say sometimes you kick out
one boy-leader of that mess, and other boys become Ok.

Just be firm. Don't lose confidence. It's like being a doctor (my wife is a
doctor). If you show fear, kids will never calm and will scare to death. She
has to be confident even if the kid is dying!

May God bless you and your outpost,
Boris Chikota

: [RR] The Predicament I'm in

>Greetings All,
>
> When it comes to advancements here is the predicament I'm in, My outpost
is
>5 boys. This is the whole outpost, with all of the age groups. The boys
>don't want to wear the uniforms they were issued, but they want to move on
to
>the next level, even without completing their advancement requirements. I
>was told from the Pastorship, that I am to move the boys up when they get
>promoted to the next school grade, not when they turn eligible for the next
>level. More often than not the boys, don't want to participate and do the
>things that Rangers do. Formation takes 20 minutes to 1/2 an hour. I
>thought it was supposed to take about 5 minutes tops, but they don't want
to
>do it properly, they interrupt, make a lot of the obscene gestures that the
>wrestlers make on TV, (They are really into WWF and WCW and then this
Pokemon
>nonsense) Some of them come only when they want to, but then they expect me
>to move them up to the next age level without them even finishing the stuff
>they started.
> Can anyone assist me with this? How is a person supposed to run an
>outpost when there are two sets of rules that don't match. (not necessarily
>contradictory, so it is not a double standard) I think that it confuses the
>children? Then is the resources idea. I have a very limited budget and I
>already spent just about my entire yearly budget on supplies, so that makes
>it so Pow-wows are out, we have no money for them. Last year's pow-wow, we
>over spent our budget by almost $200.00
>and were unable to provide the things for advancements to give the child
>except to tell him that he earned it. I have put myself at risk once or
>twice by providing subsidies from my own pocket just so that we could order
>some stuff. What I mean by this is that I have taken my own money and
spent
>a lot on getting things for the boys when I could have paid some of my own
>bills or something. I let the bills run late. I'm not even sure how the
>outpost is going to hold up for the next month while I'm out because of my
>surgery. I wonder if anyone will just get so frustrated with those kids who
>want to do nothing but be disruptive, not do the program and are there just
>because their parent made them come.
> I want nothing but the best for those boys, I go way out of my way for
>them and I'm happy to do it because I don't have any children of my own.
Can
>anyone offer me a few pointers on how to straighten out this mess I'm in? I
>am trying to run the program like it says in the book, but it keeps
breaking
>down somewhere. It's causing me to loose confidence in myself and question
>why I even bother. I have plenty of other things I could be doing with my
>time.
>Can anyone help with some ideas?
>
