We are considering the same thing. We wanted to do it last year, but time
got away from us.

Our pastor is all for it.

What we were (are) going to do is get one of the larger campgrounds in
Colorado where you can get a community campsite that would house a number
of families. We (rangers / commanders) would then arrive early on Friday,
and have the others (families) arrive later on Friday. The Rangers would
run the camp in regards to setup assistance, meal preparation, cleanup,
campfire prep, etc. We had considered having different stations set up
that were manned by a few Rangers each. Each station would be used to
display / demonstrate a different skill; i.e. campcraft, toolcraft,
firecraft, etc. The parents could then spend Saturday morning going to the
different stations and get a better idea of what the Rangers learn through
the program.

We are still hopeful that we could pull this off this year. The main
caveat, as we see it is getting a campground close enough to where everyone
lives (we are in the South Denver area) that would not hinder them from
coming. If people have to drive 3-4 hours to get somewhere, they would
probably be less likely to some. But if they only had to come a few miles,
they would probably make the effort.

Subject: [RR] family campout?

Work has been very slow today and I have been in "planning mode" ...

For the past 8 years, we have had a father&son campout every summer. Boys
and men look forward to it and it sometimes draws some "non-ranger" boys.
I
enjoy seeing boys spending time with their fathers on these weekends.

Our church has a lot of boys that have no fathers, and lots of girls that
have no mothers. I have been considering a way to reach this special group
of kids/parents without having an "adopt a child" campout.

***Walking on egg shells now ! ***

I am considering having a family campout this summer. A Friday/Saturday
campout where the whole family is invited and encouraged to attend.

There should be some emphasis on considering! I have not approached the
pastor about this yet - not sure what his reaction will be.

Has anybody ever done a family campout? What did you do? What do you
think?

*** This will NOT replace the father&son campout! ***
