This was a very big discussion in Germany as the war in Kosovo was the first
one a german army took part in since WWII. It was only in the early nineties
when the german army took part in a UN-mission. There were many people who
didn't even like the idea of germans taking part in those UN-missions
(Cambodia, Somalia, Bosnia). But then in Kosovo the german army took part in
'NATO aggression' against a sovereign state. And what was the biggest shock
for most of the opponents was that the new german government of
social-democrats and ecologists who had always fought against
Bundeswehr-missions off german/NATO territory now supported the Kosovo
mission.
