Dear Rangernetters:
There is in the making, a heated debate over the issue of gun control on the Rangernet.
One of the reasons God allowed the United States to happen could be that many free thinkers have arose out of our democratic system. We have been free from tyranny for the most part and for the most part free from a repressive government that forbids free thinking.
While many free thinkers think that there is no God, and many think that Jesus Christ is not who he claims to be, what has made this country successful is that they have a right to reject the divine truth and no government or monarchy will forbid them from expressing unbelief. It has also allowed the Christian to examine for himself claims of what is divine truth then single out false doctrine that would otherwise be imposed by a tyrannical government.

On opinion side I feel that gun ownership in the United States must have played some role in crime deterrence and it seems as if gun ownership has kept ruling self serving powers from emerging. Historically, gun ownership has provided our forefathers with a means of putting food on the table and keeping dangerous animals at bay.
In our society today very few use guns as such a tool, being essential to them.
We still hunt for sport but I would consider it more of a learning experience about life. I do not consider game as a trophy.

There has been some documented evidence that guns are dangerous to have in the home, especially with children around. If that be so how many documented cases have there been of children being run over by the family automobile or maimed by a butcher knife?
Guns should be recognized more as a tool rather than a weapon. If it be necessary that a Christian family have a gun serve as a weapon there should be strict precautions taken considering the use and storage of such a weapon.
When I joined the Illinois National Guard in the Infantry I was sent to Basic Training. There we not only learned how to fire what we referred to as a weapon but we were also taught gun safety and etiquette. God have mercy on the recruit that would happen to leave his weapon leaning against a tree and Drill Sergeant found it, or the recruit that just happened to drop his weapon or the recruit that just accidentally let off a round without an order to fire. The same strictness was observed using a simple stick called a riot baton. Much of the riot training was simply harassment, just to get our goat so we would start using this weapon without authorization. The trainers tried desperately to pry that riot baton from my grip which would be a miserable time for me but even more a fatal mistake in a real riot.
The whole object was to get a person to lose their cool using a weapon. Those that lost their cool would get some Super High Intensity Training until they either broke down completely or got stronger in character.

The point: We do not need to make more laws prohibiting guns or taking our guns away but we as a society need to learn more discipline (not referring to punishment) more responsibility if we choose to own a fire arm and more basic respect for one another.

The best way to achieve theise traits in anything we do is through the Lord Jesus Christ.
I once learned how to use my body as a weapon, an art called Karate. In Karate I learned that discipline is not necessarily punishment but control. When I received Christ and started learning from his word I learned many more facets of living a disciplined life not just discipline of my mind and body but discipline of my soul. Responsibility has always been the weakest part of me but I learned much more responsiblity through gods Word and learned how to respect even the disrespectful.
I f we as a society don't learn more of these traits and more we will begin to lose priviledges through more governmental control.
