Here's my thoughts...
1. Why are we doing this?
Why do we do any of this? - To reach, teach, and keep boys for Jesus Christ!
As for the RRCTC, I see several motivations for it. This training
conference should help equip our leaders to teach & train other leaders and
boys. We are in a unique position to assemble the best and most exciting
training materials possible. We are also able to bring together some of the
best trainers in the world. Try to envision the best trainers and the best
training material all available for FREE to leaders throughout the world.
Why are we doing this? ... Simply put, to rekindle the fire in Royal Ranger
leaders and and boys by giving them high quality, exciting training
materials.
The result of our labors is seeing men and boys excited about the Royal
Ranger ministry and spreading the word of God. People being saved and lifes
changed!

2. Who is this training being aimed at?
The training is aimed at the commander and the boys. Yes, we want to get
the commanders excited, but we also want to give them something that they
can give to their boys. Many of the topics will deal with being a
commander, but I feel that we need to include some classes that will teach
some basic skills to the boys. How about a multimedia presentation on how
to throw a hawk with real video footage and computer animation? How about a
multimedia presentation of basic first aid?
Don't forget the pastors! Many pastors monitor rangernet and visit
rangernet sites. Are there some things they need to be taught about
Rangers?

3. What format should the training materials take?
The training materials need to be exciting and portable.
If you want a lecture on how to build a tepee, you can go to the bookstore
and get a book or find a web page with instructions and read it.
We need to be different!
If I bring a computer into my Ranger classroom and show a powerpoint
presentation with some pictures and text, the boys are going to pay a little
more attention. If I add some sound effects, video, or animated gifs ---
the attention level goes up even more. If I add a sound clip of someone
else speaking and teaching the lesson .... I have their UNDIVIDED attention.
How can all this be accomplished?
Microsoft Powerpoint is an excellent program for training presentations. It
gives you the ability to include sound and video. There is a free viewer
available that will allow anybody to view the presentations. It also has a
built-in function to publish presentations to the web.
I would suggest that all presentations be in powerpoint or some other
multimedia program that can be taken from the internet and ran in a
classroom elsewhere.

4. Who will hold the copywrite on the materials?
I like the idea of taking the materials I write and offering them for sale
to other commanders. The idea of earning extra income from these courses is
appealing to me. UNTIL --- I think of that one commander or church that
will not be able to use the materials because they can't afford them.
I don't want the copywrite on the courses I write for this conference or the
devotions that I write. They are a gift from God and I give them back to
Him. I want Ranger leaders to use them freely and share them freely! (If
at some time in the future I offer my material in a CD or book form, I will
claim copyrite on it in that form.) The materials would still be free.
As for me, the materials that I generate for this conference will be offered
freely for Royal Ranger use as long as they are not sold or used as part of
a conference that someone is paying to attend.

5. Will we allow the materials to be used elsewhere?
As said above, the only restrictions on my material is that it not be sold
or used in a paying event. Emails saying they were used are appreciated.
