If you don't want the lead to go through the whole pencil that's no problem:

You just need

    - a tree branch from a hazeltree
    - a 2 mm drill
    - a lead (available in a local stationery store)

Drill a hole into the front side of your tree branch, sharpen the branch
around the hole and put the lead in there. If the hole is too small, move
the branch while drilling to open the hole. Be cautious because the lead
will break if the hole is too wide.

You can do the same with a biro (ball-point pen) if you take a branch from
an elder tree (Holunder). You don't even need a drill then as the pith of
the elder tree is very soft. You just put the biro in there and there you
go...
