Maybe he will use Eukalyptus-tree branches for this project.
If you have a stuffy nose just write a few miles and breathing will be no sweat.

I can imagine the boys in AZ use cactus for pencil making .
It would make sure that you will never loose that pencil.
You can go to sleep with it and have it ready in case you want to write down the
invention that came to you in a dream.
You could also stick the note paper to it.
Just hit me.

Do you not have to use glue to keep it from falling out ?
Also, would the glue not help in filling the space around the lead in case the
hole is slightly too bid ?
Have you ever tried it this way ?
What do you mean by "sharpen the branch around the hole" ?
