Problem with this. We only have so many smart bombs. They work on a
laser pointed system. We put people on the ground in hostile territory and
they point specially designed lasers at the building, or exact location. The
bomb them centers in on those lasers pinpoints and land there blowing up the
buildings.
Great weapon with only a few minor flaws. The first is its cost.
Costing thousands of dollars each, we can't practice and play with them. The
second is the manpower. It requires two to four men in ordsecure a target.
Three, limited supplies. During our little invasion of Kosovo we used all of
our smart bombs and missles up. We ran out of our weapons, and thats why so
many bombs missed their targets.
The weapons they were using were probably conventional weapons, which
require a certain distance from the target in order to be dropped. They
don't just open teh bays and let teh bombs drop hoping to hit something.
They have it calibrated for wind, speed, weight, everything. They say fire
and there is a tiny window of opportunity to hit the target, so if the
forward controller misses his mark he is the one responsible for the bombs
not landing correctly.
The fighter pilot doesn't even know his target a lot of times. He just
knows that he has to let them go when told or else he might hit a civilian
target instead of a military one.
With all of that in mind how can anyone outside of those directly
involved say what they did was murder? If anyone is guilty it would be the
forward ground controller calling out the positions. His mistake cost the
lives of all those men. Not the pilot.
