*Again, out of the space-time walks a Charter FCF
Member backed by my Commander who also was *there!

FCF was not intended to become a Blackpowder club,
a Historical re-enactment group or "something to
hold the intrest of older Ranger boys" What it did
desire is found in it's pledge.

The facts are.......

FCF started with little forthought for it's longterm
evolution and application to the overall *program.
It was 'generaly" assumed that the members allready
were "top-knotch" and at the start, foundational to
the development of Royal Rangers. FCF was somewhat
a "gift" back, of Honor.

(Check me out with Cdr.Fred)

FCF for a time.. *My time.. was adrift.
Untill the 1972 Rendezvou, Chapters pretty much
centered on the process of inducting members
and growing. 1970 or so was the start of a
secular sport of shooting muzzeloaders.

The evolution of the advancement steps i.e. Buckskin
and Wilderness was the product of several old timers
who were close to Cdr.Johnnie.

Johnnie himself had a outdoor heritage and enjoyed
even some "horseplay" in camp, or a light hearted
spirit. Thus, the Fraternity began to include a
growing list of pranks or "test's" of courage ect.
to the greenhorn members.

*Nuff said there.. that's history.

But what I want to share with you is the "heart"
of that first campfire. I was 14 and a Sr.Guide.

I did not hear Cdr.Johnnie say to me to come and be
"Like him" Cdr.Johnnie didn't have me apply or
ask to join him, He called me out by name. He was
a fantastic speaker, and visionary. He knew that
the greatest gift of a summer camp was *recognition.

This had two profound effects on me as a 14 year
old. First, "someone was watching me, knew me and
recomended me as a solid Ranger" Second, in being
"recognized" I had a challange laid before me to
accept for a "Lifetime Adventure".

We "mouth" the words, Reach,Teach and Keep..
but in Honoring a boy, we *BOOST his Morale,
and in turn feed his passion for Leadership.

*NONE of this had to do with a "period theam" but
a "world view" of becomeing a "wilderness walker"
and equiping myself for the journey, the Lord would
provide. I was to *apply myself.. and remember the
pledge, the Code and *Motto.

In my "mind" FCF would be a "High Adventure" group
for those who had embraced the Patrol system and
were proven leaders. (*Super Rangers<G>) I also
had the feeling that where ever I went.. I would
be welcomed back to the campfire without question
as a *Brother...

In closeing..

The "main thing" is never found in aquireing
trinkets or portraying characters, but is found
in *Displaying Character.
