Good question.

As to the old GPH patrol flags and patches, I just assumed that it didn't work out like the National office thought it would.  I actually have two theories as to why the GPH patrol flags and patches were created by the National office:

Theory #1: Some outpost lacked the imagination and skill to think up and design their own patrol names and flags.  So the National office decides to make up their own patrol flags and patches and sell them through GPH to HELP these outpost out.

Theory #2: The national office possibly tried to "regulate" the patrol names by selling their own patrol flags and patches with benign patrol names (like "eagle patrol" and "tiger patrol) in hopes of preventing outpost from using "inappropriate" or "controversial" patrol names like "stupid monkey patrol" or "blood sucking ticks patrol" or "man-eating tigers patrol."

Whatever the reason was for making their own patrol flags and patches, it apparently didn't work out (maybe sales for these patrol items were very low).  So now apparently in the new program they just decided to COMPLETELY leave it up to the individual outpost to select their own patrol names and design/create their own patrol flags without any assistance from GPH.  I know that GPH is having a "close out" sale on a lot of the old program patrol items.

Keep in mind this is my THEORY as to what has been going on "behind the scenes" if anybody really knows what the story was behind the GPH patrol flags and patrol patches please correct/educate me because I really would like to know.

Anyways that's my two cents.

Subject: [RR] Patrol System is it dieing out?

With the new program have you noticed the patrol system dieing out?

It makes sense as the older boys who are supposed to be leading the ("troop" according to the National Website) are in "uth".

The reason I emphasized troop was it is a boyscout term and not found in Royal Rangers...except on the national RR website.... I picked it up on a letter from a Dist. Men's Ministries Director after 10 years of experience with Royal Rangers etc....  I made the same mistake the first year in Royal Rangers...until I was enlightened about Troop-Outpost-Patrol differences....

GPH is still selling discontinued Patrol Flags and patches but the new program has no real place for it ... or have I missed something?

Why have a Sr. Guide and Patrol guides Asst. Guides but no place for them in the program or patches...standards..ect.?  Questions...I ask.

Can someone put me on the path to understanding here?
