Associate Members ~ Aims



Associate membership status is open to anybody and
organisation with an interest or involvement in sustainable tourism. The aims
of VISIT are:



• Promotion of and support to Sumateran sustainable
tourism development

• Promotion of its full members and their certified
products

• Promotion of certification for sustainability in
tourism in compliance with the VISIT standards

• Protection and further development of the VISIT
standards for tourism certification schemes

• Support the mutual recognition, the co-operation and
exchange of information, experience and expertise among the members, as well as
other expressed members’ interests

• Support activities between members and stakeholders

• Development and protection of the VISIT name and
concept
 

GENERAL POLICY 

   

Ø      
We will not propose
un-necessary regulation; 

Ø      
We will work to cut
red tape and modernise existing regulation;  

Ø      
We will co-ordinate
the Community actions affecting tourism;  

Ø      
We will promote
actively the competitiveness and sustainable development of Sumateran tourism; 

Ø      
We will continue to
support actions promoting Sumatera as a tourist destination;  

Ø      
We will explore
ways to promote emerging forms of tourism 

Ø      
We will continue
collaborating and consulting with all the relevant stakeholders and;  

Ø      
We will strengthen
the visibility of the importance of the Sumateran tourism industry.

                      21 KEY CRITERIA FOR SUSTAINABLE TOURISM MEMBERS 

                      

                      1.
                      Is voluntary in nature.

                      2. Maintains a publicly available
                      list of products.

                      3.
                      Contributes to sustainable tourism development through
                      the verification of tourism products through their 
performance.

                      4.
                      Contribute to maintaining and enhancing service quality
                    in tourism in Sumatera

                    5.  Recognises other eco-labels meeting
                      the VISIT Standard.

                      6. Has considered product life cycle
                    issues when setting product related criteria.

                    7. Requires
                      attainable levels and gives consideration to relative 
impacts
                      (“per unit”), through measurement,
                    scoring and availability.

                    8. Is based on sound scientific,
                      engineering, management economic environmental and social
                      principles. The criteria
                    are derived from data that support the claim of sustainable
                    tourism good or best pactice (i.e. environmental, economic
                    and social benefit and/or efficiency).

                    9. Takes into
                    account, during the process of establishing the criteria,
                    relevant
                    local, regional and global environmental
                    issues, 

                    available technology, and economic and social issues whilst
                    avoiding compromising service quality.

                    10. Reviews the criteria
                    and product functional requirements within a predefined 
period.
                    

                    11. Requires the declaration and compliance of the product
                    to environmental and other relevant legislation as a 
pre-condition
                    for the applicant to be awarded and to maintain the label.

                    12.
                    Has selected product criteria, which may relate to impacts
                    on the environment and natural resources or emissions to
                    the environment. Such performance criteria shall be 
expressed
                    in absolute (numbers) or relative (%) figures and measure
                    units (e.g. kWh, litre, volume, weight per product, room,
                    bed, overnight stay, m²) and may also recommend the
                    exclusion or use of special materials or substances with
                    proven negative or positive impacts respectively.

                    13. Requires
                    criteria which are relevant in its area of operation and
                    relevant for the specific product group and relate to
                    the impact of the area and product group in relation to 
sustainable
                    tourism.

                    14. Shall have management criteria which complement
                    other Environmental Management Systems and include a 
commitment,
                    suitably informed staff, training, public information and
                    monitoring and measuring procedures.

                    15. Is accountable to
                    its stakeholders in terms of the labels its development and
                    operation: product categories, product
                    criteria, period of validity of criteria and award, testing
                    and verification methods, certification and award 
procedures,
                    compliance verification, complaints procedure.

                    16. Legally
                    protects the eco-label (i.e. the certification 
mark/logotype)
                    in order to prevent unauthorized use and to
                    maintain 
                    public confidence in its brand and or initiative.

                    17. Is open
                    to all potential applicants of the predefined product group
                    in the area of operation. All applicants who
                    fulfill the ecolabels conditions and criteria are entitled
                    to be granted a license and authorized to use the label.

                    18.
                    Guarantees that all the elements in the ecolabels conditions
                    and criteria and the product function characteristics are
                    verifiable by the eco-labeling body.

                    19. Has a verification
                    methodology, which guarantees a high level of reliability.
                    This includes on-site verifications
                    occur as a minimum at least once every three years or 
certification
                    period which ever is the lesser.

                    20. Has a set of terms and
                    conditions relating to the overall operation of the 
programme
                    which control the awarding of
                    the licence and the use of the label.

                    21. Issues its certification
                    based upon criteria that apply to the site for a predefined
                    period of not more than three
                    years.

Wan, Green Tourism Institute boleh juga tuh. Cocok dan identik
dengan brandnya Sumatera. Saran saya coba deh bikin orat-oret dulu
program-programnya apa saja.  

   

Ini saran saya sebagai contoh: 

   

1.      
Buat sebuah dalil yang cocok dan pas untuk pengartian Green
Tourism 

2.      
Buat Pemetaan daerah-daerah obyek Wisata Mana di Pulau Sumatera
ini yang bisa dijadikan Green Tourism Area (GTA), lalu berikan nama spesifik
untuk daerah itu yang punya nilai natural dan tentu saja komersial. 

3.      
Lakukan survey ditiap-tiap daerah yang sudah dipetakan, kemudian
buat sebuah proposal apa sebaiknya yang akan dilakukan untuk tiap-tiap GTA
tersebut. Setiap GTA harus punya konsep dan nilai nature yang unik dan berbeda
agar labih menarik dan variatif untuk kemudian “dijual” 

4.      
Dokumentasikan keseluruhan GTA tersebut dalam kumpulan konsep
pengembangan GTA di Sumatera, dan jangan lupa daftarkan TradeMarknya. 

5.      
Undang seluruh Kepala Daerah dimana lokasi-lokasi GTA tadi
berada didalam sebuah Workshop / Seminar dan jelaskan konsep Integrated
Sumatera GTA Development. 

6.      
Jangan lupa pengembangan GTA tidak melulu hanya pada konsep
pembangunan fisik tetapi juga harus ada unsur-unsur: 

a.       Pembangunan
SDM Masyarakat dan lingkungan setempat 

b.      Pelestarian
Hutan dan Lingkungan 

c.       Pelestarian
Flora dan Fauna 

d.      Pelestarian
Budaya setempat 

e.      Pembangunan
Ekonomi masyarakat 

f.       
Nilai lebih untuk Pemerintah sempat dan nasional 

g.       Dll…dll…
ngerti kan ? 

7.      
Jangan lupa, Konsep GTA bisa ditawarkan kepada donatur dari luar
negeri. Banyak itu tersedia Wan. Mulai dari WWF sampai ke Bill Gates
Foundation, dll 

   

Sementara itu masukan dari gua Wan (untuk program Green Tourism
Area Development). Tentu saja masih banyak lagi yang bisa dilakukan. (Lomba
karya tulis, lomba foto Green tourism, dll) pokoknya banyak deh ide… be
creative Bro.

Thanks. Sorry gw terlambat hadir anyhow sukur deh masih pada
peduli. Tadi barusan komunikasi dengan TTG asia majalah travel dan sy kemukakan
tentang konsep sy bahwa sumatra sbg green tourism destination dan maaf memang
dari dulu saya bukan jual sumbar saja tapi sumatra. Sisi baik dari tsunami
sekarang menjual sumatra lebih mudah. So I think sumatra promotion board is a
