*
Adityawarman* (also *Adityavarman*), a nobleman born in east Java, from
Pararaton
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pararaton>[1]<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adityawarman#cite_note-0>poem,
his mother's name was Dara Jingga from
Dharmasraya <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dharmasraya> princess; his
father’s name was Adwayawarman from Kuburajo
Inscription<http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Kuburajo_Inscription&action=edit&redlink=1>
[2] <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adityawarman#cite_note-1> around
Limo
Kaum<http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Limo_Kaum&action=edit&redlink=1>in
West Sumatra. He may have gone to
China <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/China> on a diplomatic expedition in
1325 if, as some historians believe, he is the envoy whom a Chinese source
calls
*Sengk'ia-lie-yu-lan*[3]<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adityawarman#cite_note-2>
.

In one of his inscriptions, he explicitly calls himself *Lord of the Golden
Earth* (Kanakamedinindra). An inscription in localized Malay Sanskrit found
on the back of the Amoghapasa
statue<http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Amoghapasa_statue&action=edit&redlink=1>found
at Rambahan, West Sumatra, dated 1347, written (and perhaps composed)
by Adityawarman, commemorates his role as protector and source of welfare to
the people of the *capital of Malaya* (*Malayapura*) and his power as an
embodiment of
Amoghapasa[4]<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adityawarman#cite_note-3>
.

Adityawarman left many more inscriptions than any other
Sumateran<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sumatera>ruler; these show that
he was a devotee of esoteric
Buddhism <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddhism>. He ruled for a long time,
until at least 1375. His last known inscription was issued in that year. He
is described as the *Lord of
Suravasa*[5]<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adityawarman#cite_note-4>;
the name
Suruaso<http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Suruaso&action=edit&redlink=1>is
still used to refer to the area near
Pagarruyung <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pagar_Ruyung>.

Adityawarman conquered Jambi <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jambi> region in
Sumatra <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sumatra>, and later the Tanah
Datar<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanah_Datar>region in central
Sumatra to take control of the gold trade. Adityawarman
then founded the royal dynasty of
Minangkabau<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minangkabau>in Pagar
Ruyung <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pagar_Ruyung> and presided over the
central Sumatra region between 1347 and 1375.(
