Javier,
You have answered your own question.
Here's the classic approach (my favorite) :)
01. CONNECT dbname IDENTIFIED BY password
OUTPUT dbname.STR
UNLOAD STRUCTURE
OUTPUT SCREEN
OUTPUT dbname.dat
UNLOAD DATA
OUTPUT SCREEN
DISCONNECT
RENAME dbname.rx? dbname_backup_yyyymmdd.rx?
RBEDIT dbname.STR
-- Search and replace the column values as you see fit and save the file
RUN dbname.STR
-- this will build the empty shell
LIST COLUMN colname
-- verify all updated columns
RUN dbname.DAT
-- to load data
02. Make sure to use the RELOAD routine to refresh all INDEXes.
That's all there is to it!
Have fun!

Razzak

I need to change the size of a column in a table from TEXT 9 to TEXT
20; actually and unfortunately, there are 60 instances of this
column in the database. I did write a utility once upon a time that
did a lot of renaming when multiple occurrence of the column were
present and, if I recall correctly made it available to forum
members that needed that functionality. It was many, many year ago
and I will have to search my old laptops to see if I can find it.
Does the recent version include by any chance a utility to do this?
If not, does anyone have an easy way to do this?
My workaround might be downloading the database structure and data
and changing the length there and reloading the whole thing. Any
help or advise will be appreciated.
