Narrower meaning not as tall--shorter would be a better description.  When
testing barcode labels for a military manufacturer, we baked, painted over,
covered with permanent markers, and snipped thinner and thinner until it
was almost hair thin.  As long as the laser can move from left to right, it
will read.
