Like the fabled Phoenix rising from its own ashes, ORBUG -- the Ohio R:Base Users Group -- is rising from the former SWORBUG and NORBUG -- Southwest Ohio and Northern Ohio R:Base Users Groups, respectively.
The consensus of the group of Ohio-based R:Base developers and users who got together last Saturday for a day-long conference to help each other better understand, and deal with the challenges of, R:Base 7.0 was that we want to create a statewide self-help group for all R:Base users, both 7.0 and 6.5++, in Ohio.
We're still working out the details, but it is doubtful that ORBUG will become a formal organization. Rather, we'll probably "stay loose," exchanging information and solutions and problems and workarounds and whatever by e-mail and phone.
We'll probably have similar one-day conferences a couple times a year because we found that spending 8 hours together, applying our collective brainpower to each person's problem or concern, we all learned one heck of a lot -- and walked out at the end of the day one heck of a lot smarter about 7.0 than we were when we began the morning.
We're going to add all Ohio R:Base users -- if we can find them -- to an e-mail list to share information. If you're an Ohio "R:Baser" you can contact me for more information about ORBUG.
