TO all who had valuable suggestions on the R:Base 6.5++ problems my client
is having on a machine upgraded from XP.
Here's what we've learned so far.
1. In checking the driver, my client found
that XP was NOT using the default driver, so it had found a driver for
the card.
2. The driver is an SIS driver. THe video card is actually part
of the mother board. He searched on their web site for this product and
found NO drivers listed for XP for this product.
3. The upgrade to XP was NOT done by removing 98 but by installing XP
over 98.
In addition, the client did some searching on the web and found an exact
description for the ghosting problem he's having on a web site about running
Word Perfect for DOS on XP's. There WAS a fix for it BUT it involved using
the WP menus themselves, not anything under XP. So the problem is known,
but we can't find so far any fix for XP itself.
The machine in question really is ONLY used to run R:Base. The client
will be upgrading to 7.0 in the spring. The machine that was successful,
you'll remember, was a NEW machine. They were planning to upgrade (not
replace) more machines to XP but are waiting to see if we can resolve this
problem.
Suggestions? Our options include:
1. Replace the motherboard
2. Redo the install by removing windows 98 and installing XP
3. Go back to 98 until we upgrade to 7.0 (and NOT upgrade the other
machines until then)
I'd love to find a simpler option to solve the issue - any ideas?

In win XP Pro: (May be slightly different if Home Edition)
Click the following:
-Start
-Control Panel
-Appearance & Themes
-Display
-Settings -> The monitor used (or default) should be displayed
on this screen.
Of default then the correct driver is not installed. If named driver is
installed then it may need updating, or problem may be with video
card driver.
-Advanced
-Monitor
-Properties
-Driver (Tab)
-Update Driver (Update here if you have the
driver available)

An alternate path is to use the traditional Win 98 view:
-Start
-Control Panel
-Switch to Classic View (Seen on the left sidebar)
-Display (then, continue from the Display line
above)

How do I find what the setup is? How do I tell if it's right /
wrong? How

to?
