Gunnar: One more thing that you can try: Click on Start and Select Network Places Under Network Tasks select Network connections and you will see all of your connections Right click on the connection that you are having problems and make sure it is enabled, if yes, select Repair Right click on the connection again and select properties Select the protocol you are using, most likely TCP/IP Under the general tab, make sure that: If you are not using "obtain an IP automatically" that you have values for the IP Address, subnet mask and gateway If you are not using "obtain DNS server automatically" that you have values for at least the preferred DNS server. This has fixed a few problems for me in the past Javier,

That should give you the internet. Same result DHCP client not working. Manual ip config (192.168.0.146) within the router address sequence (192.168.0.100 -- 192.168.0.199) gives the LAN live but not the internet. I still belive this is either lack of my knowledge of XP/Networking or a corrupted OS. Yes I looked and I stopped and started the DHCP client service and it start automatic. Any ides before I do format c: on Tuesday is appreciated Gunnar Ekblad -----Ursprungligt meddelande----- Frn: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Fr Troy Sosamon Skickat: den 26 februari 2004 15:50 Till: RBASE-L Mailing List mne: [RBASE-L] - SV: OT: Finding bad NIC's Have you tried uninstalling and Re-installing the network card. Under administrative tools/services, look at the DHCP Client service and make sure it has started and Automatic. To test your XP workstation, open a good old DOS window. Type ipconfig /all This will display all of your nics, ip addresses, gateway, and dns servers. Now try ipconfig /release This should let go of the ip address and if you do ipconfig /all, you should see 0.0.0.0. Finally try ipconfig /renew This should give you a new ip address. I have found if things are messed up these commands will give you errors that should point you in the right direction. I did have a problem on an XP machine where the DHCP CLIENT SERVICE got turned off. You might want to take a look at it in the task manager. I have one NIC that does not behave! I CAN MANUALLY GIVE IT AN ip -ADDRESS BUT THEN ONLY INTRANETWORKS, Not Internet, If I ask for automatic IP-adress I get an error message. The closet I come to my understanding of the issue (in XP pro) is that the orginal setup was for an ADSL with PPOE when I am now wanting a shared connection I cant find how to enable the the DHCP clinet (Of cource I can add the DHCP client is started). This Microsoft stuff drives me mad sometimes even if it might be to my own lack of knowledge.! I know it ios off topic and I gladly pay my fees if I get enligtment! Sorry Bernie not give an answer but only one question more!
