Razzak, this gets even more interesting:

I copied and pasted your solution and changed the column names appropriately. The only other change that I made was to put a space after the commas to make the function easier to read.

This still gave me an error but about the column not being null...
I took out the "Not Null" - it seemed superfluous - on the three columns and the reload worked. However, the data was incorrect. Two columns came up as all null and the third had today's date in every row.

Clearly this needs more time to look at carefully but I have to leave it until tomorrow now. It looks as if I need to use the AS ASCII option but that needs a bit of re-writing of my command file as I can't use that format everywhere.

I'll report back in due course,

Thanks for your help,
Regards,
Alastair.

Alastair,

We'll continue to improve R:BASE!

For some reason I seem to remember that there used to be a reason for
not using the ((IFNULL(DateColumn,.#DATE,DateColumn))) solution but
I'll give it a try again now.

Make sure that the column is defined as "Computed". The "Default"
setting for column properties is to be used for non-computed values;
like Y/N for a Yes/No column.

Let us know what you find after implementing the above.

Very Best R:egards,

Razzak.
