However when they try to access the database this way it is very slow and freezes up on them so I believe that the bandwidth is not sufficient. Don't run the application across the VPN. You're treating the WAN like a LAN, and that will produce unusable results with a file server database like R:Base. Instead, use the VPN to establish and protect the connection back to the central office. But then let the user take out a terminal session on a machine located in the main office
