If somehow this is related to a power down situation, maybe the following could help:
Caffeine by Zhorn Software Or google for "mouse jiggler" and see if one of those solutions helps. Some are free/donation software, some are purchase. It be interesting to know if one of these resolves the situation. Quite a few people I know are experiencing drive disconnects in XP or 7 and the above has not been tried here.
