Karen,

All installs of Windows 7 have the ability to upgrade to a higher version 
without a complete re-install. All you have to do is purchase a upgrade 
certificate (which gives you a different product serial number)  and issue an 
upgrade command. This upgrade method only operates with the same
bit size (32 or 64) you can not use this method to upgrade from a 32bit to 
64bit version of windows 7. But you can easily go from hope to professional or 
ultimate.
