I guess I don't understand why you would "embed" forms and reports
in a compiled app. They are in the database, so why would there
be an option to embed them in the app (I'm assuming they become
part of the exe?). What do you gain by this?
FWIW ...
It is all about security and protecting underlying techniques,
code, and knowledge of your custom designed applications, not
to mention the protection of customer knowledge and their code.
In simple terms ...
If you have an application where the entire code is embedded inside
the forms, external form files, and reports, then embedding all
your forms and reports in R:BASE compiled application becomes the
best option to protect your code without anyone mucking with the
code. Additionally, there are many more options and advantages to
using R:Compiler 9.5. http://www.rbase.com/products/rcompiler
Once you have a thorough understanding of all valuable options
and advantages, then maintenance and keep-up becomes automatic
when developing and deploying R:BASE compiled applications.
R:Compiler is the most innovative solution for distributing and
deploying your R:BASE eXtreme 9.5 (32/64) applications!
Imagine an R:BASE 9.5 application running in a corporate network
environment without a single external file. The single executable
includes all Forms, Reports, Labels, External Form Files, Plugins,
selective R:BASE Themes, Engines, Configuration files, and anything
else you can imagine.
Having said that, if your application development and deployment
environment still includes zillions of external command files,
such as JM2.RMD, JM2.CMD, JM2.EEP, or any external files, and
if you have not made an effort to take advantage of embedding
the external code inside forms and reports, then R:Compiler
and the compiled application with embedded forms, external form
files, reports, labels, and Plugins is not the ideal protection
of your code.
Without mentioning many R:BASE vertical market applications or
customized secure applications for our corporate customers,
R:BASE 9.5 Demo Version (www.rbase.com/demo) and R:Docs 9.5
(www.rbase.com/products/rdocs) are great examples of R:BASE
compiled applications using R:Compiler 9.5.
Very Best R:egards,
