Gary,
One thing that helps, 15,000 RPM SCSI drives in a RAID 5 or 6 configuration.

If reports take too long to print in a multi user setting you could make a 
local copy of the database and connect to it temporarily as a single user. I 
think you need to change directories before you disconnect or the disconnect 
takes a lot longer....I think another user with lots of experience mentioned 
that trick.

I noticed the same performance issue many moons ago when I moved from Novel 
Netware to Windows Server.
