Is it better to
1. Have the program setup on each PC like I have or
2. Have everyone Remote into the server and have all the operations
performed via that connection.
Could you give me your pros and cons of each.
Gary,
All *other* databases and applications, including R:BASE, behave the same
when running on the latest versions of MS Servers, such as 2008 SR2, etc.
However, all my big and small, old and *new*, Corporate and Government
clients are pretty happy with running R:BASE 9.5 (64) on MS Servers and
accessing R:BASE applications using the Terminal Server configuration.
Both Server and Terminal Servers are Microsoft OS on the same server,
but the terminal server configuration is much faster. While configuring
the environment as Terminal Server, there are some challenges regarding
the printing services. However, having a good relationship with their
Network Administrators should resolve all printing oddities, etc.
Having the R:BASE "Remote Client License" was the result of such cool
innovation, when running R:BASE on Terminal Server environment.
Working with our big corporate and government clients and providing
them with R:BASE 9.5 solutions, recently we have also implemented a
few "Undocumented" settings to improve the R:BASE performance in a
multi-user environment. These undocumented settings and more will
be unveiled and demonstrated at the 2012 Annual R:BASE Conference
in October.
